Do you plan to integrate the interlang feature across Wikipedias?

The interlang feature on Wikipedia is what allows people to read the carrot entry in English, click on français and read the carotte article in French. We have no plans at the moment for this (admittedly) very cool, very practical feature.

Can I set SSID, password, and command shutdown for my Kiwix Hotspot ?

SSID is set to Kiwix but the admin panel allows you to set and change the wifi password. Raspberry Pi can be safely unplugged in order to shut down, as weird as that seems.

Does anyone know where the wikipedia torrent is?

Or any torrent, for that matter. If you go to https://download.kiwix.org/zim/ you will see all of our ZIM files. And if you append .torrent to the normal download link it should get you there for any of them (so for instance https://download.kiwix.org/zim/wikipedia/wikipedia_en_all_maxi_2026-02.zim.torrent for the February 2026 Wikipedia zim, at the time this question was asked)

Is there any way I could get involved in doing some volunteer work for you guys?

Yes! And it’s not even hard / demanding. You can always open an issue (for Android, desktop or Apple) to flag problems or make suggestions. If you speak in tongues other than English, then head out to Translatewiki and pick whichever language you fancy. The interface will give you short strings, so you can literally do 30 seconds of work a day. Last, any content that is freely licensed and you think should be on Kiwix -> open a request at https://github.com/openzim/zim-requests/issues. Remember, no copyrighted stuff (we can’t pay for it, we’re poor).

How resource intensive is it and how do you keep your .zim files updated?

Beyond the storage space for the ZIM files themselves, Kiwix-server isn’t really that resource intensive as that only scales with the number of users you will be serving. In order to keep files updated. Here is a small Kiwix updater script someone came up with to help you maintain your library.

Is there currently an official, maintained list of mirrors for the Kiwix Library download repository
