How do I make my own ZIM file?

Maybe the website you want is very niche, or maybe you just need it done now. All the info is here: https://wiki.openzim.org/wiki/Build_your_ZIM_file

Can a Raspberry Pi break in storage?

Bit rot (silent data corruption where stored ones and zeros change over time) is a thing, unfortunately, and if you have ZIM files stored somewhere then there is a non-zero chance that you might lose access over the years. Make copies of your files on separate devices, keep your hardware active (power up) every so often, and keep your storage in a cool, dry place with minimal temperature swings.

As there been any progress / plan for archiving Reddit?

We did reach out to Reddit a while back and they said their lawyers weren’t keen on data crawling (and that was before the LLM craze) – so nothing is going to happen on the Kiwix side.
This being said, free software allows people to build their own ZIM files, and someone rolled out ArticZIM which will build capture most posts and subreddits. But, “Please note that this tool is aimed at users using a linux system and having experience with the command line”.

No seeds for a torrent download

Using Transmission or qBittorrent to download an Prepper image you purchased shows that there are no available clients. Well good news: the absence of other seeders for a purchased image is normal! We recommend Transmission (or qbittorrent) because they’re webseeders and can pull directly from our server while checking for file integrity. So basically it’s like a regular download, with a check to ensure there’s no corruption during download (or that it resumes properly if interrupted).

Download links fail after a few minutes

You have decided to setup your own hotspot and purchased an OS image. But after an initial happy start, the download speed decreases drastically until it finally stalls. Adding insult to injury, interrupting your torrent client at this stage often causes it to crash.

What happens is that the file is big (256GB at a minimum), and it takes a bit of time for the whole thing to be processed. From our own testing, the download resumes after 6-10 minutes of it going limp. No idea what happens under the hood, but sometime you need to let the machine breath!
